Forthcoming Adventures

So Big Trip 2009 has been postponed (and will therefore also have to be renamed - at least now I have more time to come up with a better name too!). But I still have some mini-adventures over the next few months.

First of all, I'll be going to London with Mum next weekend. I've been there quite a few times before, but never really liked the place. But on my two recent trips I started finding places I quite liked, so this trip is all about finding more places I like, and taking lots of photos. I missed a fantastic photo last weekend: a blood-orange sky behind Parliament as the sun setted.

Next, I'm going to Spain with Dad at the end of March to see James, Paula and Marcus. I haven't seen them since June 2006 when Marcus was only 2 months old, so I'm really looking forward to this trip.

Me and Dad are also planning to go to the Rockies later this year, to go to working ranches, see 'Native America', and visit family.

Hopefully I'll also go to a few mounted games competitions this year with Dad's teams, and go to events with the Red Cross as a first-aider. I also want to visit some universities to have a better idea of where I would like to do my MA. I've had my eye on Manchester for ages, but I was there last week, and just wasn't sure why I wanted to study in another northern city.

Also wouldn't mind going to a festival this year, but not sure which yet. And I was watching a programme about the Scilly Isles last night, adn they look like an awesome place to visit.

Keep you posted.

Life, Now

My old plan was to work all this year and go to the Caribbean and South America on a big trip next year. But I decided that, (a) maybe I needed to focus on "personal and professional development" if I ever hoped to get a job in the voluntary/non-profit sector; and (b) I just couldn't work in Brookhouse anymore.

I changed over the RTW2007: I analysed what my life had become, and how far removed it was, both from what I may've hoped it would be, and from my supposed principles and values. When I got back, things had to change. I really wasn't happy with the old me.

So now, I am in my first month of unemployment. I am doing several online courses and a first aid course with the Red Cross. And I have volunteer applications with several organisations, which I am waiting to hear from. I am hoping to fill my time with educating myself, helping others, seeing friends and family, and with hobbies such as photography, horse-riding, hiking, and maybe some new ones.

It's a bit stop-and-go at the moment while I find my feet, but I'm really looking forward to the next few months, until I run out of money and have to start work again!

I've finally found places that I like in London, other than Camden and Notting Hill. Places where people don't just stare at the pavement and keep walking. Places with character and style.

I'm not saying I've totally changed my mind about London. It's still too big, with too much traffic, too many people, and it's still too expensive. And I hate blowing my nose after spending the day there and having black snot.

But maybe I'm warming to parts of it, and I can understand why people choose to live there.

I'm going back at the end of the month, so maybe I'l find even more positive things to say.

My Published Photos

Just a quick note to mention my photos that have been published.

Auckland Domain - Museum

This photo was published in the Schmap guide to Auckland, along with the one below.

Auckland Domain - Trees

Sydney St James Church

This photo of St James's Church in Sydney has been used by the Home and Abroad trip planner website.

Snow in Denbigh

This photo was published by an online magazine called wales4all, but I don't think it's there anymore!

I have also had a photo of Parliament House published on the Schmap guide to Brisbane, but can't find the original on my computer, and some guy called Patrick has used one of my photos from North Point Beach for some research he was doing on shark attacks.

And as always, you can check out all my online photos on my flickr page.
