Adventures of Frangipan

At the start of November, Dyfrig sent an email round saying the following:

"During Movember (the month formerly known as November) I'm growing a Moustache. That's right I'm bringing the Mo back because I'm passionate about tackling men's health issues and being proactive in the fight against prostate cancer. At the start of Movember guys register with a clean shaven face. The Movember participants known as Mo Bros then have the remainder of the month to grow and groom their moustache and along the way raise as much money and awareness about male health issues as possible."

So I've put my hand in my pocket and sponsored him. I think it's good to see guys raising awareness, because far too many men have a bury-their-heads-in-the-sand approach to health issues. And before Movember, I didn't know that prostate cancer is the most common cancer in men, with 35,000 men being diagnosed every year, and one dying every hour.
So if you'd like to sponsor Dyfrig too, follow this link to his Movember page. Money raised goes towards research, peer-to-peer support, information and support via their helpline, and improved access to treatment.

Birthday Celebrations

So it was my quarter-century this year. One that should be celebrated as some believe, including Mum. Unfortunately I was very last minute in my planning.

After several changes in the guest list, I went out to Chester on Saturday with Rhian, Steven and Laura. We had a great night, even if we weren't allowed in the new club Cruise because Steven was wearing trainers. We went to Rosie's/RB's/Reflex or whatever it's called these days. I was very happy in the oldies/indie room!

Then on Sunday I took cake to mounted games training, and the Pony Club parents and kids sang happy birthday to me. That night I went to the cinema with Danny because he couldn't make it to Chester. The film - Max Payne - was pretty dire, but it was still good to hang out with Danny.

On Monday I got a card signed by everyone in work, and then I went for dinner and to see James Bond with Mum.

So despite my bad, late planning, and me feeling like it was going to be a terrible birthday celebration, it turned out quite well. At least I've got five years to go before the next one worth celebrating, so plenty of time to plan (and give people more than five days notice)!

40mph Crew

Just wanted to have a bit of a rant really, about all these people who seem to drive at 40mph everywhere. A few weeks ago everyone I seemed to end up behind was going at 40mph. It made me question whether the national speed limit had been changed and I didn't know.

It's just so frustrating. I know I don't get to my destination that much quicker at 60mph (on a short journey) but being stuck behind someone dawdling is so infuriating. I don't think I'd be quite so annoyed about this if I thought they were being cautious. But then I follow them into a 30mph zone, and they just keep on going at 40mph. What is so special about 40mph?

I think there should be a separate road for them, and another for people who travel at the speed limit, unless there's a very good reason not to, like ice or snow or big monsters on the road.

Rant over.

Trump Resort in Scotland

BBC article on Donald Trump's new resort to be built in Aberdeenshire

"It will be a tremendous asset and source of pride for both Aberdeenshire and Scotland for many generations."

Personally I think that Scotland's natural beauty, history and heritage are more of an asset and source of pride than a couple of golf courses. Even if they are the greatest in the world.

Shame on the Scottish Government for approving this.
